Documentary
A documentary is an explanatory movie that describes a particular aspect of reality: an event, a person, a theme. It generally needs a journalistic approach, with which the necessary information must be (re)searched in advance.
Instructions
- For outdoor shots it is possible that it can rain. Do not just provide protection from the rain for yourself but also for your equipment.
- Shoot more than you expect you'll need. You will probably need some additional materials to illustrate certain pieces of narration that you had not foreseen in advance (for your reference, the BBC has tape recordings of 8 hours for a documentary that lasts 1 hour)
- It is easiest if you have prepared your text or narration before the recording. Otherwise write out your text during the shoot. Consider the length of the text; 1 line of text takes about 6 seconds.
- Use different types of shots
