KlasCement Extends Online Materials to Include Video Resources

EduTubePlus partner KlasCement in Belgium launched its call for video resources created by teachers in March through a request in its newsletter. Site visitors have been asked to share pictures, video and audio clips, educational clips, samples of SchoolTV, interviews, video reports on activities, instruction films and any other multimedia resources that might be of use to other teachers. Publications around the use of video in learning

Kevin Burden and his colleagues at the University of Hull have recently made a number of conference presentations at various national and international venues. These include the Ascilite conference (Melbourne in 2008) and the EdMedia Conference (Vienna in 2008). BETT Show, 2009

Staff from the University of Hull attended the annual BETT show in London, one of the largest technology shows of its type in Europe. Video featured heavily in many of the exhibitions and there was considerable initial interest in the concept behind EduTubePlus. In January 2010 staff from the EduTubePlus project will take a stand at BETT to share developments and look for potential recruits. NewsFilm Online Launch: 3rd October 2008

A team from the University of Hull (Kevin Burden; Theo Kuechel and Simon Atkinson) attended the official launch of the JISC funded Newsfilm Online archive containing over 3000 hours collection of News item (60,000) clips dating back to 1900 (www.nfo.ac.uk). As you would expect, the clips cover the great and significant moments in 20th, and (some 21st century history), but perhaps even more importantly illustrates, visually, a snapshot of the 'everyday'; the impermanent transience of life and society at that given time. The world’s largest educational technology event BETT09 took place on 14-17 January 2009 in London and attracted almost 29,000 visitors. Two EduTubePlus partners, lesite.tv and University of Hull were amongst the 600 exhibitors, lesite.tv were featured on the French stand and University of Hull on the MirandaNet Stand.

Launch of MEDEA Awards 2009

EduTubePlus partner ATiT announced the launch of the MEDEA Awards on 31 March. These annual awards aim to encourage innovation and good practice in the use of media in education and to promote excellence in the production and pedagogical design of media-rich learning resources at all levels of education. The development of a suitable multilingual ontology of curriculum-related terms was considered an important aspect of the EduTubePlus system, as it would enable teachers and pupils navigate and find multicultural video resources using terms related to their national curricula in their native language. Video content providers meeting

Video content providers of the EduTubePlus project met in Madrid, Spain (UNED premises) on March 11th 2009 to begin discussions and plan the work for WP5. During the meeting, the content providers presented their selected video-clips; all selections were discussed in detail, while University of Hull (UofHULL) provided an overall analysis of results as well as comments for each video-clip selected.
