The media server is a big computer that stores media files and that shares these with other computers via a network. Media servers are big and costly and normally not a piece of hardware that can be maintained and run by an individual school. That is why users normally put their videos on media servers that are hosted with Internet service providers who take care of the support and of the necessary bandwidth to distribute the videos.
Computers and servers are connected with each other via wired or wireless networks using the Internet Protocol (IP), a method for transporting data, no matter what kind of data.
