University of Hull Supports UK National Education Network

Theo Kuechel from the University of Hull and a partner in EduTubePlus has been reviewing the resources available in the UK through the National Education Network (NEN).

Theo describes the NEN and the type of material available to the network:

“The National Educational Network  is a collaborative network of regional education within the UK, providing reliable broadband connections a safe, secure and reliable learning environment and direct access to a growing range of online services and digital content. I feel there is a great deal of synergy with EdutubePlus as can be seen by taking a quick look at just a few of the resources offered by the NEN, that may be of interest to the EdutubePlus community:

  • Unlocking the Archives brings together three of the UK’s most prestigious collections: National Archives, British Film Institute and English Heritage
  • The E2Bn network provides access toBritish Pathe enabling schools to download video from over 3500 hours of historic news clips.
  • Developed by the North West Learning Grid, the National Digital Resource Bank  will deliver a vast range of resources under a creative commons licence for schools to add to learning platforms, preparing them for effective use allowing teachers to create and share their resources.
  • My work with NEN also looks at the JISC Collections for Schools, a non-profit initiative designed to make an extensive set of high quality reference and digital content material available to schools.”
