Kick off Meeting - 11th and 12th of September - Athens, Greece

The EduTubeplus Kick off Meeting was successfully held in Greece. Representatives from 16 active members of the consortium gathered in Athens for initiating and organizing the work of the project.

Day 1: was devoted to partner’s presentations. The meeting was initiated with a short welcome speech by the Director of RACTI and a presentation of the EduTubePlus project by the project Coordinator Elina Megalou. Following, technology providers, content providers, pedagogical experts, evaluators and users presented their organisations, their existing systems, content and experience as well as their particular interest in participating in this project. The day concluded with a dinner in the ancient market of Athens nested below the Parthenon.

Day 2: The second day of the meeting started with the speech of Mr. Marc Roeder, Project Officer of the EduTubePlus project from the European Commission. Mr. Roeder clarified several aspects of the Grant Agreement and EC’s expectations from the project. He also mentioned that the EduTubePlus project achieved the highest score of all 34 proposals submitted under Action 4.2 in Call 2007.

The rest of Day 2 was devoted to discussions on each work package. Work Package Leaders, after making a short introduction of the work included in each work package, they coordinated the discussions on various aspects:

  • the involved existing technologies and the video formats of the project library and web service platform
  • the multinational curriculum-related ontology and the metadata schemes for video-based learning activities
  • The pedagogical framework for the effective use of video in class
  • the pilot implementation in schools with integrated learning activities

At the end of the day, Project Management issues were discussed, including the management and decision making scheme, the project communication tools and financial issues. Mr. Kevin Burden (UofHull) and Mr. Nathan Tufte (RACTI) were assigned as Pedagogical Manager and Technical Manager of the EduTubePlus Project respectively.
