Module 3: equipment for recording

Camera

There are several different types of cameras: analogue cameras, digital cameras and webcams. Of course there are also differences in terms of their ease-of-use and appropriateness.

Analogue camera

Traditional cameras use Hi-8 tapes and record everything in an analogue format. If you have such a camera, you will need additional equipment to convert the analogue material to a digital format in order for the computer to understand and process the material you record.

Digital camera

Almost all cameras sold today are digital cameras. The difference with an analogue camera is that a digital camera converts the recorded image directly into digital signals which can then be edited easily with your computer.

Webcam

A webcam is only suitable for certain purposes, such as filming sedentary people or people giving a lecture. The disadvantages of a webcam are of course its inflexibility due to its connection to the computer and the fact that the quality of the images from a webcam is not high.
