Europeana provides access to millions of digitized items from European museums,libraries, archives and multi-media collections and is growing everyday.
Originally proposed in 2005 by a number of European presidents as a way to ensure that Europe’s cultural and scientific heritage took its rightful place among the information resources of the digital world, the prototype for this digital library already links to 4.2 million digital objects from more than 1000 organisations. The plan is to link to more than 10 million digital objects by the time version 1.0 is ready in 2010.
